Elsworth Avenue El Chronicles

Chapter 3 - Getting Closer

Last Chapter Update: December 27, 1999
This page is under construction

As life so often seems to get into the way of having fun, much of my hobby activities began to get bogged down as the job kicked into high gear.  The engineering group I'm in was told that we would deliver the operating system, no ifs, ands or buts.  Top it off with a very late book and a publisher who keeps sending me reminders, I practically didn't do any subway model work all year.

Good luck did shine my way when I ran into two other fellows, Bob Fried and Ted Siuta, who are also interested in subway modeling and modular layouts as well.  So, we started exchanging ideas and working together on furthering our collective interests.  We exchanged ideas and this resulted in some new work on layout design and el building that other subway model railroaders can use.  So. I decided to add links to our work here:

  • Module Specification - Link to be added later
  • Ted Siuta's el structure
  • Pat Villani's "KISS" el structure
  • Bob Fried's el structure

  • Soon after I published the "under construction" version of this page, I received email from Jim K., who sent photos and a short description of his work.  He combines Plastruct parts with Micr Engineering girders and columns to come up with a superb old time el structure that can be adapted to any other area, such as NYC Third Avenue el or Chicago L.  Take a look at how he built his el:

  • Jim K's el structure

  • In the mean time, Frank Gatazka, model railroader par excellence and world traveler, went to Japan and gave us this report:

  • Frank's report - Link to be added later.
