Youth are unquestionably the fastest growing population at Navesink River Rowing. Last year, 107 boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 18 participated in one or several NRR youth programs.  Most had never rowed before.  Many stayed on after completing their 2-week Novice program.  They rowed the remainder of the summer as Intermediates and then competed in the Fall.  Others brought high school rowing and national competition experience with them to the 7-week Advanced program, which helped them build on that foundation.  This year, NRR looks forward to another "best ever" season for everyone involved.

Novice Youth Program:    5 mornings a week for 2 weeks.  Offered 4 times.

This is an introductory program for boys and girls ages 14-18 who have not rowed before.  It teaches the basics of handling and safely operating rowing equipment both on and off the water.  Youth are introduced to basic sculling in quads and doubles.  They cover the fundamentals of body positioning and control, plus basic blade work to lay the foundation for a solid sculling stroke. $250   Get Application

Intermediate Youth Program: 4 days a week for 2 weeks. Offered 4 times.  Take one, two, three, or all sessions.

For boys and girls ages 14 to 18 who have completed a “learn to row” program with at least 8 sessions on the water.  This program builds on the sculling fundamentals of blade work and body positioning to teach youth how to replicate the same stroke consistently. Youth start to develop “boat feel” and begin to work together to move boats.  They will be able to replicate a solid stroke at low ratings and work towards building pressure and power to make boats accelerate.
