Navesink River Rowing is a non-profit organization
dedicated to educating the public about all aspects of the sport of
rowing. We maintain a fleet of boats for members to use from early May
through late October, and offer lessons,
coaching and youth programs in
June, July and early August.
Founded in 1983, NRR has introduced hundreds of men
and women to the skills, health benefits, teamwork, dedication and
discipline that make sculling and sweep rowing exceptionaland
lifelong--forms of exercise and recreation. Our rowers range in age from
14 to over 80. There is no residency requirement, and NRR
does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, nationality, or ethnic
origin.
We row on the Navesink River in Monmouth County,
NJ, launching from a modest site at the foot of Maple Avenue in Red Bank
(directions
to site) where we keep 23 single shells, 4 doubles, and 7 quads, We also maintain rack space for privately owned singles and
serve as the site for the Christian Brothers Academy crew.
NRR memberships for
adults with sculling experience and NRR programs--including
adult beginner lessons and summer camps for novice, intermediate and
advanced level youth rowers--are open to anyone from Monmouth County and
the surrounding areas. Everyone who completes an
application and waiver, pays
applicable fees, and adheres to the rules and
policies of the organization is welcome.
NRR is managed by a board of
directors that meets monthly to discuss issues and make decisions
effecting the organization and its members. We hire a staff of top-notch coaches for the
summer. Every other aspect of daily and ongoing operations is handled by
member volunteers.
