Navesink River Rowing
has a long history of successful competition in major East Coast regattas
(see Results).
Recently, masters level (over 28
years of age) singles sculler, Mark Malone won the Danzeisen Cup for
fastest sculler on the river at the Cooper River Cup regatta in Camden, NJ. At the 2007 Master's
National Regatta in Tennesse, he won all four races he entered. He and fellow masters sculler, Bill Scholtz,
also compete together in a double, rowing into one of
the top three spots whenever they race.
Youth rowers Emily Crosby and
Kathryn Lowry took 4th place in the double at the 2006 Junior
National Championships in Cincinnati, Ohio and improved to take the
third place medal in 2007. An NRR girl's quad also qualified for
Nationals last year. (See Recent Events).
While many of NRRs competitive scullers
row their own singles, the club owns a number of boats ideal for racing,
including:

Eight 4Xsthree Vespoli, five Win Tech;
Four 2xsthree Hudson--one lightweight;
one Vespoli
Four 1Xone Vespoli, three Peinert.
NRR competitive
rowers practice during early morning hours on weekdays.
Several crews also participate in early evening and weekend practice
sessions. New competitive crews will be forming in June 2008.
