Reform Judaism in America: Retrospect & Prospect. The Weekend Program begins Friday evening, February 5th, following Shabbat services at 8:15 PM. In the Beginning.... the first attempt to reform Judaism in the United States of America will be introduced. Dr. Zola will take us back to Charleston, South Carolina, during the early national period. We will learn about the founders of the Reform Society of Israelites-the very first "Reform" synagogue in American Jewish history.
Saturday evening, February 6th, after a covered dish supper at 6:00 PM and Havdalah conducted by our Senior Youth Group, The Journey from Charleston to Tinton Falls. This program will provide an overview of the evolution of Reform Judaism in the United States from the introduction of the Pittsburgh Platform in 1885 to the present. The focus will be on the evolution of the ideas behind Reform Judaism: from "Classical Reform" to our current mix of ideologies.
Sunday morning, February 7th, following a bagel brunch at 9:30 AM, Reform's Future: What Will the Coming Century Bring? Will Reform Judaism survive as a diverse ideological coalition or will the call for boundaries and doctrine bring us to a more homogeneous Reform Movement? This program is designed to challenge us to consider where Reform Judaism begins and ends. So, let's bring all of our questions as we discuss the dynamic struggle facing Reform's future.
