The Taylor-Butler House, an elegantly appointed Victorian mansion situated on five wooded acres within the Middletown Village Historic District, was built in 1853 by Joseph Dorset Taylor and his bride, Mary Holmes Taylor.  The house reflected the wealth and status they had acquired in New York's China trade, as well as their pride as descendants of one of Monmouth County's oldest families.  The house stayed in the Taylor family until 1930.

Please be aware that the charm of this type of site comes with a few limitations.  Like many historic homes, the Taylor-Butler House has no air conditioning and is not yet handicapped accessible.

Taylor Butler Rental Information and Guidelines

It is a great house for a party!  Once a stately, commodious home, MCHA has made it available for the discerning bride or party-planner with an eye for historic, classic lines and graceful architectural beauty that can only be appreciated more with the passing of time.  There are a total of eight (8) rooms available for rental (five [5] downstairs and three [3] upstairs).  A bride would feel like a princess as she descends the magnificent curved staircase into a large and welcoming foyer.  A circular driveway makes valet parking an easy option; for smaller parties, there is ample nearby parking.

Rental of the property also includes the use of the spacious grounds.  You'll find our yards ample, and tent rentals are permitted to bring your party or wedding outdoors.

This beautiful Victorian mansion can comfortably hold 100 guests for a sit-down dinner, and 150 for buffet-style service or for a cocktail party.  Maximum capacity:  150 (sit-down) or 200 (buffet or cocktail party).
