Wil talks about the Dallas, Texas show

ok, i'm going to also highlight any comments adam made on songs and any real change-up of lyrics in the order they occurred in the concert.

1)Rain King-Adam added probably four lines or so in the middle, but i couldn't understand because of the crowd level. ended it with the "Goodnight Elizabeth, i'm so sorry now"

2)Mr Jones-(a lot slower, very cool accordian, ben switched drum sets to one they rolled out on stage, the music was a lot softer and adam's voice dominated with a very sullen atmosphere, absolutely beautiful) lyric changes included: "When everybody loves you, I think you will never get lonely" "Grey is my favorite color, but i just feel so confused everyday" "When everybody loves me, I hope i never get lonely" "We all want to be big, big, stars, but sometimes we get second thoughts about that. Believe in me, cause i don't believe in anything, still i want to be someone to believe, but you should not believe in me" "When everybody loves you, Sometimes that's just about as fucked up as you can be. Well, can't you hear me cause i'm screaming. I did not go outside yesterday. Don't wake me cause i was dreaming. And I might just stay inside again today. Mr Jones and me, we don't see each other much anymore." After the song adam said,"that was like the 3rd time we played that song in two years."

3)Goodnight Elizabeth-before the song adam said,"this is a song about a girlfriend i had when we left for our very first tour. and when i got back from our very first tour i didn't have a girlfriend anymore"

4)Another Horse Dreamer's Blues-before the song adam said,"this is a song...my best friend called me this morning from new york city and she asked me where we were and i said we were going to galvingston. and i asked her what she was doing and she said she started rehearsals for a play on tuesday. and i said cool i wish i could see you 'cause i haven't seen you in a long time. and she said you know i think i'll fly out today. so she ran to the airport, jumped on a plane and came to dallas. which is something only really best best friends do. which is why she's so fuckin bitchin. and right before we went on she said why aren't you playing my favorite song you dick...so now we are" after the song he said,"that's for you margery" now this is just a thought i had on the anna begins trilogy, or the latter of it. maybe margery played the little girl's role in a production of sam shepherd's play and adam combined both the play and margery's dreaming of horses. what do you think about the trilogy?

5)Perfect Blue Buildings-before the song adam said, "I used to have this house up in the hills of berkely. and i could never sleep there at all. i can't really sleep here either, but i really had a problem there. i used to just sit up all night and try to write songs...seems like that was the only way out of that problem. as it turned out, it seems like it kinda worked. this song's sorta about that cause you don't know where to go because you can't sleep and you don't want to be awake." adam ended the song with the prince ending:

"Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes the skies are grey
Sometimes it's all so familar
Sometimes it's all so strange
Come on--can't you hear me cause i'm screaming
i did not go outside yesterday
and don't wake me cause i was dreaming
and i did not stay inside again today
and i might not go outside at all again today
sometimes i stay inside all day"
6)Round Here-as always this is the most interesting and changed up song adam does. probably another 12 minutes or so. the middle had what i guess will be "Barely out of Tuesday" and ended with some of "Private Archipeligo" maybe if you know anyone who heard adam play "Barely out of Tuesday" at Yale, you can ask them if some of the lyrics fit. anyway, here's the changed up lyrics:

"out of the lightning....
i woke up wednesday morning
sometime wednesday evening
looking for a piece of something easy to believe
we live out on the border of
everything and nothing
there's nothing but waking and dreaming
barely out of tuesday
there's no one to receive me
but nothing is changing
well maybe you could leave the light on
maybe you could leave the light on
well maybe you could leave the light on for me
can't you see her waiting there down by the sea
yeah, i know there's a light on
but there's no one there for me
if you see me coming home
just turn me away
everybody tries to go back somewhere, someday
would you leave a light on
i said everybody tries to go back somewhere, someday
so come on just leave the light on
i said everybody tries to go back somewhere, someday
so leave the light on for me
cause i can't see her
can't you see me
there's a girl on a car in a parking lot
she says--come on--take a shot
she says can't you see me
can't you see me
can't you see my walls are tumbling down
can't you see their down
can't you see, can't you see
their crumbling down on me
can't you see, can't you see, can't you see me
so listen,....there's a girl on a car in a parking lot"

ends with private archipeligo but a little different:
"why are all the girls so hungry
why are all the boys so lonely
why can't anybody see me
why can't anybody feel me
why can't, why can't, why can't
you leave the light on
why can't you leave the light on
just leave the light on for me"

i also went to the austin show the night before. sorry i don't have the setlist, but i can give you the jist of the concert change-ups

before mr jones adam said something about "we quit playing this song but these two girls made us decide to resurrect it. it's about me and my friend marty." played it with the very similar lyrics to the dallas show. which brings me to another question. do you know if they did play it at the houston show too. towards the end of a murder of one adam threw in the whole song of "doris day"

the show in austin had much better sound, but it seemed like adam was into everything more in dallas.
