Goodnight Elisabeth
As a faithful Counting Crows fan, I ran out and bought their latest
CD the moment that I could afford it...and a few moments before that.
After listening to the entire CD, I knew the two songs that hit my
life: Long December and Goodnight Elisabeth. Goodnight Elisabeth was
just an inspiring number; the lyrics vividly portrayed the most
stereotypical relationship of the 90s: two people profess their love...and one walks out. The first set of lyrics written by Adam Duritz
cut right through my soul. Whether or not he had actually
experienced something of that nature, he certainly knew the heartache
that comes when the one that you have given so much to is gone...the
morning after. The song continued on in the same emotional state,
and if you listen carefully, you can hear the pain seeping through
the band. I am glad that as of now, Goodnight Elisabeth is not being
commercially blown up and ruined: I would like to think that we
Counting Crows fans can say we heard the meaning first.
