Hollywood Playboys

A biography prepared by H. Dennis Garrity jr.

This Photo, taken in 1959, was used for many of their initial Promotions. (Newspapers, Posters, etc.) The Hollywood Playboys frequented venues in many major cities in New York and New jersey. This photo represents the second generation Hollywood Playboys and I will take my best guess at the names. Pictured - (Back)-Loui Leona & Hughie Garrity. (Front) Joey D'amora & Johnny Meikel.

Hey $1.00 was big money in 1959 but the "Hollywood Playboys" gave you your money's worth. This must have been a great show for the boys to have saved a ticket stub. Shall it remain a mystery? Who knows?

Hollywood Playboys were really working hard and the pay-off was great. Their most popular Club appearances were at, but certainly were not limited to, the Flamingo Lounge in Newark, NJ.

In the Summer of 1960 the band started playing the Jersey shore.

Hollywood Playboys Rock at the Jersey Shore - Read Newspaper Article from Thursday, July 28, 1960 - A popular stop; Jerry Sheehan's Beach house in Keansburg. At this time, they had released a 45rpm single on "Sure Records", (Sure-105) titled "Ding Dong School is Out" b/w "Talk to Audrey". The Summer of 1960 was also there first printing of the -BULL..IT..EN- released for the fans to keep in touch with the bands latest antics.

The band pictured here is Hughie Garrity-Piano, Robert (Fritzi) Brown-Sax, Johnny Meikel-Bass & Joey D'Amora-Drums.

In Jan. 1961 Hughie takes a long awaited vacation.
