New York City Subway R27/30 Model Project
Pictured below are photographs of my R27/30 model project. These photos show the intermediate work done in the project. For my layout, I selected the 1968-1976 period where I did my most riding of the subways. The R27/30, R16, R10, R40, R42 and R46 were the norm. These models aren't commercially available so I decided to build them myself. I use RTV molds and thermoplastic resins for building quantity of these models.
These models will be available to other modelers. They will be made in runs and announced on Model SubTalk. Contact me at patv@monmouth.com for pricing and availability.
R27 Perspective View Showing Body with roof pattern. The roof is before detailing and the car body is built from first piece molds. R27 Side View. This view shows planned roof vent locations for final detailing. Roof was hand carved from wood and is detailed using plastic sheets embossed with rivet detail. Vents are made from other castings that I built earlier to include frame and grating. Out of focus front view of R27/ Unfortunately, you cannot see the details in this photo, but I spent considerable time in building the anticlimbers and adding rivets true to the prototype. R27 End pattern. Photo is light but it illustrates the technique used to build patterns for final molds.
