The Archer-Epler Musketeers were saddened to hear of the passing of Mike Findley, who marched with the corps as a snare drummer in the late 1970's.  He will be missed by his many friends, both within and outside of our corps.  There will be a visitation hour at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 6th (335 Manor Avenue, Downington, PA).   A Memorial Mass will be held at the church at 11 AM.

It is with great deal of sadness that we must inform you of the passing of Bill Mullen this past Sunday.

Bill joined Archer-Epler after his discharge from the US Navy after WW II. He played a baritone horn, winning some individual contests, and was a member of a three-time, undefeated, national champion baritone quartet. While a member of the corps, he served as business manager for several years and, along with Jack Reilly, was a main feature at many social events. In addition to being instrumental in starting the first drum and bugle corps circuit in the Philadelphia area, Bill was also a founder of the Mid-Atlantic Judges Association. For many years, he was active in arranging/organizing functions in the Philadelphia area, including serving as the half-time entertainment director for the Philadelphia Eagles and Stars for several years. Some of us remember how important Bill was for securing a spot for "Archie" in the 1976 Bicennential Parade when the corps represented the State of Alaska, an event that was key to the corps' re-emergence and to the development of many other alumni corps that followed us back. He also organized a fife and drum corps for the Bicenntial that he continued to manage until recently. It is hardly surprising that Bill had been a long-time member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame. While we will all miss him, we salute his lifetime of accomplishments and contributions to our activitiy that will leave indelible marks for years to come.

We just want everyone to know that our youngest son, Brian, is deploying to Afghanistan on Sunday, March 23rd. This will be his second deployment overseas. His first was to Iraq, back in 2005. He is deploying with the 101st Air Assault division. His unit is HHC, 1st Battalion, 506 Infantry Regiment. For you history buffs, this is the unit made famous by the "Band of Brothers".
We just ask everyone to keep him and his family in your thoughts and paryers.

Hi Gang!

Just to let everyone know that I finally had my left knee surgery on Nov 12th and that I came home on Nov 15th. I will be doing a lot of home therapy and hope to be back in action no later than February. And to let people know, "IT HURTS LIKE HELL!!!!". But good pain killers and hard work and I'll be marching again. I will see everybody sometime in January or February.

We were saddened to find out about the passing of Cathy’s Bonadonna's mother, Genevieve Federowicz. All services will take place next Monday, October 15th, in Mount Carmel, PA, beginning with a viewing from 8:30 - 10:45 AM at the C. J. Lucas Funeral Home (27 N. Vine St., Mount Carmel, PA) and followed by an 11 AM Funeral Mass at Divine Redeemer Church (438 W. Avenue in Mount Carmel PA 17851). The funeral procession will then proceed to the Indiantown Gap Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the memory of Genevieve Federowicz to the Divine Redeemer Church (address above) or to the American Cancer Society (1948 E. Archer-Epler is sad to report the passing of Anna Muellar, the mother of our Treasurer, Carol Coffman. Services will be held on Thursday, July 19th at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, 525 St. Louis Ave., Egg Harbor City, NJ 08215, with a calling hour from 10:00 to 11:00 AM and Mass at 11:00. 6/30/07  Today after the parade in Havre De Grace, our son Christopher called us with good news. He has been assigned a Recruiting position starting August 6, which means he will not be redeploying to Iraq.

As for Brian, he will deploy to Afghanistan sometime in April with the 101st Air Assault Division. This will be his second overseas tour. He is hoping for a Drill Sergeant position upon his return.

To all who have asked and prayed for our 2 hero sons, we whank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Just a note to let everyone know that our son, Christopher, will be redeploying to Iraq, for a third time sometime in July. Please keep him in your toughts and prayers. Chris joined to Army to make a career of it and is actually looking forward to deployment. He feels that the mission is unfinished and will do what he can to bring it to a successful conclusion. Bill Reamer

On a very sad note,  Bill Reamer passed away last evening. When more details about the arrangements become known, we will pass them along through the website . He was one of the greatest percussionists and instructors the world has ever known, having taught the likes of Rita Macey Bernert, Jack Corey, Ted Sciarra, John Dowlan, John Flowers, Dick Filkens, Bill Kaufmann, and many, many others. His son Andy was a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony. Bill was famous for his work in reconstructing Revolutionary and Civil War drums. His sticks remained a sought-after-must-have item by the top DCI corps snare lines.

         Just a quick note to all our Musketeer family: Our son, Brian, returned from Iraq on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 9:15 pm to Fort Campbel, KY, home of the 101st Air Assault Division. We flew down to Kentucky for a week to visit. In that time, we had an oppurtunity to visit with him and his family; We also took a six hour car trip to visit his brother, Chris, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and spent some time with his family over the past weekend. All in all, it was a nice vacation.

We wish to thank everyone who has asked and prayed for their safe return from Iraq.

Along with others in the drum corps world, Archer-Epler is saddened to learn of the passing of Dennis Graham, a long-time leader in Western Pennsylvania drum and bugle corps. A charter member of the Westmoreland Esquires, Denny performed with that corps over its entire history. He was also a co-founder of the Steel City Ambassadors and was that group's director until his recent hospitalizations. Always friendly and helpful, Denny had lots of good friends in "Archie" as well as in other corps and will be missed by all of us.

We wanted to thank all of you for the support you showed my father, Bob Evans, at his funeral. It meant a lot to our family. Thank you for all of the cards, flowers and mass cards. They were all very nice and quite touching. With the death of Ray Kerber in Florida on June 19th, Archer-Epler lost another of its alumni members from the 1950s and 60s. Starting in the McCall Post junior corps before WWII, Ray joined "Archie" after returning from the service and was especially proud of being part of the legendary 1957 "King and I" corps. The Archer-Epler "Musketeers" are saddened by the death of Bob Evans. He joined the corps in 1975 and was an instrumental part of what later became the alumni corps movement. In addition to playing a soprano bugle in "Archie", he served on the corps' Board of Trustees for several years. Bob was also very proud of his other drum corps affiliations, both Liberty Bell in his junior corps days as well as the Reilly Raiders (a corps in which his father had also marched) in recent years,. He will be missed by his friends throughout the drum corps world.

BONELLO, ARTHUR H., "Bud", 75 - of Mays Landing, passed away peacefully at home on
Monday, May 15, 2006.
He was born and raised in Atlantic City and graduated Atlantic City High School Class
of 1949. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bodybuilding, ballroom dancing and was a
member of the Boy Scouts of America and the High School Glee Club.
He served his country honorably in the US Navy and the Merchant Marines.
He attended the University of Pennsylvania and was a member of the Archer Epler Drum
& Bugle Corps and American Legion in Upper Darby, PA. He was a member of the
Oddfellows Drum & Bugle Corps and the American Legion in Oklahoma City. Upon his
return to the area, he instructed the St. Nicholas School Drum & Bugle Corps in Egg
Harbor City.
Bud was a Computer Systems Engineer at the FAA Tech Center in Pomona.
As an avid train enthusiast, he was owner of Aero Train Hobby House in Absecon and
past Superintendent of the Patcong Valley Railroad Club. He also enjoyed his daily
crossword puzzle.

Chris Crouthamel has returned from Iraq and is currently stationed in Germany. He is tenatively scheduled to return to the states in May, to Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Brian Crouthamel is currently stationed in Ramadi, Iraq. He is serving with the 506th Regiment, 101st Air Assault Division, (Screaming Eagles). The unit he is in is the "Band Of Brothers" from WWII. George Carter  click

I am so sad to hear of the death of my old friend George Carter, and I wish to offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. I feel great guilt for not keeping in better touch with him these past few years.
I met George when I taught the Lincoln “Invaders” down at 20th & Federal Streets in South Philly, and later, invited him to join "Archie" when the “Invaders” fell on hard times. George was impossible to dislike and was, of course, the perfect person to integrate “Archie” back in 1966.
George always kidded me that I taught him everything he knew about bugling, and I would say, “Shush, George, you don’t know much!” George liked the fact that I taught in Bensalem and always asked me to look for the trophy’s he won as a track star at Bensalem high school, where they called him “Flash Carter” because he was so fast.
George gave many children a chance to learn and perform when he managed his junior corps in North Philly, and lamented to me many times about the difficulty of getting the next generation of kids involved. It saddened him that the bugle corps activity was dying out in Philadelphia, but he was always trying, and that was one of the many things I loved about George Carter.
God bless you George, you will always be memory and in my heart.

Again, It seems that everything I post these days is another sad note.

Bob Carney passed away at 8:00 AM this morning after a short but devastating illness.

Bobby and I played together for many years with both Archie and Reilly. He also played with the Skyliner and Yankee Rebel Alumni at various times

This is an extremely sorrowful time for the Carney family and his Reilly Raiders family. The drum corps world will sorely miss his sweet horn and loveable personality. Please pray for Bobby, Jeanie and the entire Carney family.

Yesterday, Archer-Epler was very saddened to learn of the death of Bill Taylor, another member of our extended family. He was among the charter members in 1975 when "Archie" returned and went on to make history with what eventually became known as alumni corps. A fine player as a baritone and contra bass, Bill also made important contributions to all of the drum corps with which he was associated over a nearly fifty-year period, most recently the Reilly Raiders. Like others in the drum corps world, we too will miss a long-time friend.

It is with a heavy, heavy heart that I share with you the passing of Bill
Taylor.
Bill passed away today at home at about 3:45 PM.
As you all know, Bill was battling an uphill fight against mesothelioma, or
aspestosis. He was diagnosed back in late March and given 4 to 6 months to
live at that time. It is testament to his spirit and strong will that he
beat those odds by several months.
He will be deeply missed by his extended Reilly family and the entire Taylor
family.
Bill left his mark in the drum corps world over the past 50 years with the
Ridley Park Rangers, The Vassella Musketeers, The Yankee Rebels,
Archer-Epler Musketeers, The New York Skyliners and of course his beloved
Reilly Raiders.
Arrangements have not been finalized at this writing but we will get them to
you in detail as soon as we ascertain them.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for supporting me and my children thru this difficult 18 months. It was very nice of you all to e-mail Patrick and to keep his spirits up by having something to read. Patrick is due to leave Kuwait 13 November 2005 and then go thru the demobilization process for another 7-10 days at Ft Dix New Jersey he should be home to us by Thanksgiving. He is so looking forward to seeing everyone and get back to a normal life. He can't wait to get back to marching in Drum Corps the one thing he loves as much as his family. We are so proud of the work he has done there. He told us he has finally become what he has always wanted to be like his family before him, a Combat Veteran. Vince D'Agostino passed away at about 3:15am Friday at his home.

To my friends in Drum Corps,

It is with sadness that I have to say goodbye to my "third dad", Vince. He has gone and joined his 2 friends that I affectionately called, "My Three Dads". I'm pretty sure that Dan Goettel and Bob Booth had a Piels light waiting for Vince.

I last Saw Vince On the Monday before he passed. He was so looking forward to seeing everyone on Memorial Day. He even told me that he would need at least 15 minutes to shape up the rifle squad.
I made a small tribute to Vince. He meant so much to me and my family.

It's Time To Help A Fellow Drum and Bugle Corps Family!!!

At about 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 17th, Phil and Trudi
Crouthamel's Son Steve's house burned to the ground. In the fire,
Steve's seven year old son, Jonathan, affectionately called "JJ",
lost his life. Steve Crouthamel received serious injury to his
esophagus as a result of inhaling smoke and the heat generated by the
fire. He is recovering in the hospital.

Phil is a long-time member of the Archer-Epler "Musketeers" Color
Guard. He has held leadership positions in Archer-Epler American
Legion Post 979 for many years. He is a friend to a large number of
us in the drum corps activity. Trudi is also a devoted Archie member.
Steve marches with Archie whenever his work schedule allows. Phil's
Son and Grandchildren have lost everything they own. There is no
insurance to help the family at this tragic time.

Carol and Chas Coffman of Archer-Epler have organized a drive to
bring as much help as possible to Steve Crouthamel, his significant
other, Jennifer, and their family. The Family includes: Kenny who is
5 months old; Kayla who will be 2 years old in December; Angel who is
4; and Xavier who is 6. We are calling on every drum and bugle corps
and drum corps person to lend a hand in helping the Crouthamel
Family. They need clothing, baby formula, boxes of diapers, food -
everything needed to get started again. Cash contributions would be
most helpful and will allow the family to obtain what is needed
soonest.

With the passing of Lou Tierno, Archer-Epler has lost another of its
great members. Joining in 1978 with his entire family, he marched in the
competitive corps and later sang tenor in the chorus. Famous for the "buck bucket",
Lou was always an enthusiastic worker for and supporter of "Archie", most
recently at this year's Brass Reunion. With many fond memories, we'll all miss him.

The Archer-Epler "Musketeers" are saddened to learn of the passing of
Joseph ("Little Moe") O'Connor, a member of the corps' drumline from 1962 to
1967. Along with his late brother Robert ("Big Moe") and as part of the
contingent that came to "Archie" in the early 1960s from St. Vincent's, "Little Moe"
will be fondly remembered as a great corps member, an especially accomplished
rudimental bass drummer, and as an all-around delightful person.

The Archer-Epler "Musketeers" sadly note the passing of James Sproles,
a longtime member and certainly one of the most memorable individuals our
activity has ever known. A highly decorated veteran of World War II, "Kiki
Bird" came to "Archie" from the 1948 American Legion National Champion "Jersey
Joes" of Riverside, New Jersey. His loyalty and dedication never wavered, and
included a lifetime of service to other veterans. With notable sidekicks such
as Jack Reilly and others, his tremendous joy, humor, and laughter were
infectious. Everyone delighted in his storytelling, including descriptions of
his antics as part of the corps' adventurous trip to VFW Nationals in Milwaukee
in 1953. He made important contributions to the corps' reemergence in 1975 and
was a marching member when we returned to Roosevelt Stadium for our fabled
exhibition at the 1978 Dream Contest. We'll always remember "Kiki" fondly.
Our thoughts are with his wife, Rita, and family.

It is with GREAT sadness that I have to inform you ALL that a former member of the greatest drum corp ever, The Archer Epler Musketeers, has passed on and joined many others like him. "BIG MOE" O'Connor a member and horn player from 1960-1967 passed away at 1:30 pm on this 10th day of November after a long battle with diabetes. My father wanted me to thank ALL of YOU for the warm wishes and the love you showed him especially Dick Filkins and Billy Kaufman. Seeing you two always brightened his day and helped him remember the GOOD times and prepare himself to go "home" to GOD and to join that "Drum Corps in the Sky." Big Moe is now along side his friend and mentor Mickey Petrone and is no longer suffering. To all my friends:

I’ve tried to put into words, during the past couple of days, the sense of pride I have for all my friends in Drum Corps with their show of support and concern as to my welfare as well as my co-workers. Seeing you on Saturday, besides being a needed break for me personally, made me feel “marvelous” with the outpouring of members of the various Corps whom I have had the pleasure of performing. You noticed that some of my thoughts that day were for the workers and members of the team on the jobsite who were still working through the past days events. Your support and camaraderie gave me the chance to put my mind into a different space for the hours I was in Wildwood.

We have a good thing. We all should enjoy what we do and with whom we do it. Performing for ourselves, for our own group and for the entire Alumni is where we collectively get the enjoyment. The friendship and acquaintances we make is what, in the long run, defines each one of us individually. We should strive to be an organization that continues to support each other – with support we not only continue as we are but also can grow with new members and continue the tradition.

Archie has a saying that is not only for one group, it is for us all ------ AFO & OFA.

I am writing all of you regarding the status of Big Moe O'Connor's health. Moe was a member of Archie during the 1961 - 1968 seasons.

Moe was admitted to Martin Memorial South Hospital, Salerno Road, Stuart, FL, on Monday, September 2003 in a semi-conscious state. He had to be placed on kidney dialysys treatments which he has every other day. These treatments have taken 40 lbs of fluid from his body. He has received the Sacrament "The Anointing of the Sick" and had his sins forgiven. Believe it or not, the dialysis treatments are keeping him alive.

Moe was also a member of St. Vincent Cadets from 1954 to 1959. Msgr. Wojtycha (The "Chief of St. Vinnie's") visited Moe several times, as did Dick Filkins, and it made him feel good to see them both.

I know he would get a kick out of getting some e-mails or get well cards from you guys, and I ask that you keep him in your prayers. His address is as follows:

Good News!!!! Our son Christopher is returning home from Iraq/kuwait on Sunday, July 6th to Fort Hood, Texas. We will be flying out on the 5th to meet him when he gets off the bus. This past Saturday Archer-Epler was saddened to learn of the death of
Edward "Bud" Johnston, a member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame.
Although well-known for building the Reading Buccaneers into a formidable corps in
the early 1960s, "Bud" had an even more long-standing relationship with the
"Musketeers". In addition to the 1954 VFW National Championship corps, he was
drum major and M&M instructor for the corps in 1962. At the 2000 GAS Reunion in
King of Prussia, he made a special guest appearance in a "Nostalgia" salute
to our fellow senior corps. Like the rest of the drum corps world, "Archie"
will also miss Bud and remember him fondly.

the Yankee Rebels."

" Colonel Truman W. Crawford, United States Marine Corps, Retired, and one of the most famous and respected people in the entire drum and bugle corps world, passed away today peacefully while in the care of physicians at Hershey Hospital, Hershey, PA.

We have lost one of the finest and kindest gentlemen I have ever had the privilege to know. Words cannot express the loss to so many people who admired and respected this great Marine, Family Man and Friend!

May God Have Mercy On The Soul of Truman Crawford, and May The Peace of the Lord Bless and Keep His Family and Bring Everyone Who Knew and Loved Him Peace and Much Love."

Truman W. Crawford. His contributions have had a long-lasting impact on our
activity, shaping both its direction and quality. He was a personal friend
to many in Archie. First with the USAF and later with the USMC, several of
our members had the honor to serve under him in Washington, DC and become
part of the legends that will forever be associated with his name."

The Archer-Epler "Musketeers" are saddened to note the passing of Richard
E. Goettel. He was a member of a legendary Archer-Epler family, both from
the perspective of the Post and the corps. Richard was a member of the
Junior Corps in the 1930s, a veteran of WWII, and the brother of Dan, a
member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame and also a charter member of
Archie. His grandfather was a charter member of VFW Post 979. Family and
friends will miss him.

It is with sadness that I inform you that Bette Rae(Samuels) Carrea passed
away on Monday, July 29, 2002. Bette Rae was a former member of Archie's
Junior corp and was active in the color guard and as a drum major. She is
the sister of Joan(Samuels) Lobb, wife of deceased Charlie Lobb.
After a 9 mos. seige of illness Bette Rae's strength could not hold out.
She is survived by her husband "Teck", son Bradley, 2 daughters Kendall
and Raedine, 2 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandchildren, brother Jack Samuels
and 2 sisters Ruth and Joan.

She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Nate Harrell, one of our contra players, was released from the hospital on
Tuesday, June 18th, after having another mild heart attack last Friday.
Nate's doctor informs him that he must do absolutely nothing for the next
60 to 90 days. Someone forgot to tell Nate that marching is not a
sedentary activity.
We should not be seeing Nate out at practice for a couple of months, so

passing of Gloria Roberts. As the wife of Howard ("Whitey") Roberts, she
visited "Archie" innumerable times and was always a joy to be around.
Among her other memorable characteristics, Gloria will always be remembered for her smile, humor, and distinctive voice. We'll all miss her.

It is with deep sadness that I post this information....we have lost
another friend. Ed 'Mukie' Mukalian, director of the Reilly Raiders and
long time drum corps member, passed away this past Saturday night (4/13).

Once again death has entered the ranks of the Archer Epler Musketeers.
Marty Tyska, a member of the original Senior Corp in 1945, passed away on
March 23rd, 2002. He was a drummer and played along with Bill Reamer,
George Whitton and John Taylor. Marty brought honor to Archer Epler by
winning several awards with the drum quartette at several National
Conventions.
Marty was the husband of the late Beatrice V. French and resided in
Lansdowne, Pa. He is survived by five children, eight grandchildren, and
six great-grandchildren.

Frank McCormick

Frank McCormick is the father/father in law of Debbi and John Hines.
Frank  was an early member of the Reilly Raiders -perhaps as
early as 1945, but certainly by 1948. He was famous for playing the
"Student Prince" solo on baritone. As an instructor, he taught many
junior corps in the Philadelphia area as well as several senior corps,
including Imhof, Reading, Reilly, and Steel City at different times.
Also well known as a judge, Frank was widely respected throughout the
drum corps world and was elected into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame
several years ago.

To my fellow Musketeers and friends throughout the drum corps world:

It with profound sadness that I inform you of the death today of Harry
A.Matthias from a particularly virulent form of cancer. As recently as a
month ago, there were no indications that he even had the disease.

Harry came to Archer-Epler in 1955 after playing in the Hattal-Taylor and
Imhoff senior corps. In addition to playing bass baritone with Archie, he
was active in various leadership roles with the corps, including Treasurer,
Business Manager, and Director/Co-Director. He was instrumental in the
initial formation of DCA (its first meeting was held at Archer-Epler) and
in our re-emergence in the mid-1970's as the first of what are now called
alumni corps.    Even when he was no longer directly involved with the
day-to-dayactivities of the corps, he always asked how things were going,
right up to this past Monday when Harry Welsh and I were able to visit him
at his home. In June of this year, Harry became an Associate Member of the
World Drum Corps Hall of Fame, certainly a fitting honor for a man who had given
so much to our corps as well as to the entire activity.

Archer-Epler has lost one of the finest members in its long, proud history.
I will miss him as one of the best friends I ever had - it was an honor to
have
known him.

"The Archer-Epler family is saddened to learn of the death of Gene
DuAime on Friday, July 13th. Originally, Gene was trained as trumpet
player,  which led to his performing in dance orchestra when a young man and
more recently in the Delaware County Symphony. In the early 1970s, he
joined a Delaware County parade corps along with his boyhood friend Gene Bunting and his soon-to-be-friend, Jack Reilly. Gene joined Archer-Epler in
October of 1975, at the corps' first practice upon returning as what eventually
came to be known as an "alumni corps". He played with the corps until the late
1980's and was a regular fixture in the first soprano section. Many
will recall how beautifully he played solos, such as in "The Way We Were" in
the corps' exhibition at the 1978 Dream Contest. In addition to performing
with the corps, he also was an energetic, hard worker at many a fund-raising
event; he also volunteered his services at similar events for West
Catholic, his high school alma mater. And, he was always someone that people
enjoyed to be with. After leaving Archer-Epler, Gene continued his drum and
bugle corps activities with the Yankee Rebels, where he was loved every bit
as much as he was in Upper Darby. All of us will miss him.

Robert "Archie" Irwin

Crossmen Lose a Wonderful Friend:

Probably no other name in Crossmen history is quite so recognizable as
"Archie." To anyone who has worn a Crossmen uniform, Archie has always
meant someone who was there for them, regardless of how he felt that day,
regardless of the hours of sleep he missed, regardless of the time of
day or state of the weather. One thing we could always count on was Archie.
Sadly, Robert "Archie" Irwin is not on the sidelines this year, not in
his familiar truck cab, with the wonderful wide brimmed straw hat. Archie
passed away on June 28 at his Home in Texas. Director Jeff Bridges eulogized
him to the corps before the June 29th Philadelphia show, explaining to old and
new members alike just how significant the life of Bob "Archie" Irwin had
been to the corps and all tearfully agreed that his memory would continue to
be as just significant as they dedicated the show and the year in his
honor.  Archie we know you're watching—and we know that you are out there
making new friends and fans for The Crossmen. We won't disappoint you!

The Musketeers have lost another former member this week, with the death of Robert Arra.  He marched with Archie both in Junior and Senior corps as a snare drummer.  He never lost his enthusiasm and support for the corps and even came back for the 1976 Bicentennial.  He will be sadly missed by the Archer-Epler family.

Good News !

The Doctors and staff at Bryn Mawr Rehab have taken a secret vote  and decided to send Bob Herre home ("enough is enough" one anonymous staff member said ). Bob was beginning to have to much of and effect on the daily routine of the hospital so it was decided that home was the best place for Bob before the whole staff had to be retrained one doctor said (voice and face concealed for obvious reasons).         Welcome home Bob!

It is with sadness that I write to you again about the passing of an old
time Drum Major of Archer Epler. Peggy (Kelly) Patterson passed away about
two months ago. I just heard the news and sorry I did not make her
viewing. She lived in Havertown. Peggy goes back a good many years. As
far back as 1938 to 1942. All that knew her will remember her for a soft
manor and a pleasant smile. Peggy and her husband Jack came to several of
our Alumni affairs at the Post Home. It was so nice to see her at that
time and to find out she still carried fond memories of her drum corp days.
I am passing this information on in hopes that some of the (real old
timers) will remember her and keep Jack and her family in your prayers.

It's with sadness that I bring you the news of the passing of  Alfred ("Duke") Terreri On Sunday and about the arrangements for his viewing and funeral.             A member of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame,  "Duke" (Sr.) was long associated with the St. Lucy's drums corps from Newark,  New Jersey, perhaps going back to as early as 1929.
Always popular and  cheerful, this great drummer continued to play in an "ancient" corps and was  a featured performer at this year's GAS Reunion.   In addition to his work  with  St.Lucy's, he was also well known for instructing the original "Mighty"  St. Joseph's from Newark.  Back in the golden era of senior corps, I believe  he also played at least one year with Gabarina (perhaps more familiar to some  now as "The New York Skyliners").               In1997, I was honored to introduce him as  an "80-year old rookie" when he performed with Archer-Epler.  His sons have  continued his tradition in drum corps, including John who has been a horn instructor with Archie since 1996.
Although short in stature, "Duke" was simply a huge, positive presence for everyone who came in contact with him. Personally, I'll miss him a great  deal since I always enjoyed being in his company and observing his  mesmerizing ability to play. But, however difficult it will be for many of  us to say goodby to someone we might also call the "Little Giant", it's been  a privilege to have known him and we have all gained immensely by being able
to share some time with him.

There are no friends like the old friends. They leave us with so many happy memories. It is with sadness that I
inform you that another long time member of Archer Epler Junior Corp and Alumini Committee member Ann
(Hansel) Newton passed away November 13th at her daughter Carol's home in New Jersey. Ann was the
daughter of Lou Hansel, wife of Bert Newton and sister of Cass Deegan and Jimmy Hansel. She was a drum
major in Upper Darby #214 and transferred to Archie where she performed as a drum major and helped to
bring back many awards and honors to our own Junior Corps. Both Ann and Bert contributed many memories
to the History of Archie as they took an active part in the Alumni Association. Their many pictures and tapes
brought back the great flavor of the old drum corp days. Ann will be sadly missed by her family and friends
which I am pleased to be part of that list.

Some sad news to all who do not already know. Charlie
Lobb passed away on Thursday, October 12th, 2000. Charlie
suffered from lung cancer for a little over a year. We
are all so grateful that he did not suffer too long at the
end. To all who were so faithful throughout Joan and her
family are ever so grateful. You have all truly been a
"MUSKETEER" and we are so pleased that we are part of the

  Jack is back in the hospital.  He has been sick for a while but now tests indicate that he has cancer in his lung.   Due to his poor health of late they will not be able to follow normal operation procedure so they will perform a type of bronchoscopy to remove the tumor.

I just received a phone call from Bart's daughter Annette informing me of his death.
He started in bugle corps with Upper Darby Post 214.
Then after returning from WWII, he joined Archer-Epler in 1945 and
participated in the first post-war VFW Nationals in Boston. He played in the corps for
several years and was widely acknowledged as one of the all-time
great baritone players. After he physically was no longer able to march, he served as
Archie's business manager for several seasons and was the announcer at the initial
(1982) Brass Reunion. Along with Danny Goettel, Harry Matthis, and others, Bart
helped in planning three of the corps reunions in 1974 and early 1975 that pre-dated
our first rehearsal as an alumni corps in October, 1975.
He also attended the first GAS Reunion in 1985 as part of our contingent.
Even when he couldn't attend events, he always asked what he
could do to help. Bart "loved the corps" and "lived for its renown", reflecting the fine
tradition of Archer-Epler. We'll all miss him and send our condolences to his family.

Bart had a lot of friends, not only in Archer-Epler but also
throughout the entire drum corps community. Because there is so little time
between now and Friday, we'd appreciate your assistance in informing others
of his passing.

Has any one seen John Di Filippo ??

  John celebrated his 79th birthday and back in March he took a trip to "Down Under"  with his retired military RV group consisting of 33 members and toured New Zealand (North and South Islands) and much of Australia.   First stop after leaving Los Angeles  was French Polynesia Islands of Tahiti,Moorea and Bora Bora.       Oh yes- and John got married  after he returned home from his adventure.
